Weather Conditions Update: University is open, snow and ice alert issued

Today is Thursday, Jan. 19. The university is open but has issued a snow and ice alert due to the extent of snow and ice accumulation on surface areas used by pedestrians, including parking lots. The university recommends that you take appropriate precautions for your safety, including the use of appropriate footwear for conditions and selection of your walking route. Anyone wearing slip-on traction devices on their shoes should take them off immediately upon entering buildings. These devices are great on ice and snow but can be slippery on smooth, hard floors.

Students, faculty and staff who are unable to get to Western because of dangerous conditions may decide to remain home.  Each decision is a personal one and should be made according to individual judgment.  Staff should contact their supervisors if they will be unable to get to work on time because of the weather conditions and should consult the inclement weather policy or a collective bargaining agreement when reporting lost time.

Student Shuttle service may be cancelled if severe weather causes unsafe driving conditions. For updated information on the Student Shuttle, call (360) 650-7960.

As conditions change, the University will send updated e-mails and cell phone text messages and the Storm Line/Emergency Hot Line at 650-6500 will be updated with current information. Updates will also be available on the University's homepage at http://www.wwu.edu and the Emergency Information website at http://emergency.wwu.edu.
